2011 Glendowie College Ball – The Secret Garden
On Saturday 25 June, 384 Year 12 and 13 students, along with 25 teachers and senior leaders, arrived at the beautiful function room at the top of the Auckland Museum which was appropriately lit with Glendowie College blue. The students were greeted at the entrance by the head prefects (Anna Schuck and Nicholas Finch) as well as Ms Moore and the Board of Trustees chairperson Mr Grainger. Although the weather outside was wild, wet and windy, inside the circular glass function room was bright and beautiful. The lighting was set to a cool green to co-ordinate with the “Secret Garden” ball theme. The students looked amazing with the girls in an array of beautiful ball gowns in soft fabrics in jewel tones and pastel colours. Very high stiletto heels, glitzy diamanté and full length gowns were the fashion of the evening. Not to leave out the boys, who all looked very handsome in their suits.
In spite of much negative publicity regarding school balls from the media, the Glendowie College students were very well behaved and showed that teenagers can have a good time within the bounds of good conduct. The dance floor was crowded, the food was delicious, the photo booths did a roaring trade and Miss Bell was kept busy taking photographs. There was even a make-up/hairdressing specialist on site to do ‘touch up’ jobs when necessary.
The Year 13 Ball Committee, led by Billie Pederson, did a great job of organising the ball. Thank you and congratulations to these students. Year 13 Dean Mr Keshav, and the other senior teachers who assisted with the function, helped to ensure that the committee’s work was a success.

Photographs cost $8.00 (for 5x7 inch size enlargements in folders) or $15 (for 8 x 12 inch enlargements).
